Scott Oakley’s roots began in Peoria, Illinois but his family moved to Las Vegas when he was 7 years old and was then raised in Las Vegas. He started off as a teenager working at Burger King, Kopper Keg, and then worked his way up to being a Carver at Lawry’s Prime Rib and also Managing the Country Inn, all in Las Vegas. He married Natalie in 1999 and began their lives together with their two boys, Wyatt and Garrett.
Scott also worked in Banking and Healthcare until he decided he needed to go to college. He started at College of Southern Nevada and earned his Associate degrees in Special Education and Secondary Education, then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, from University of Las Vegas,. Scott was a straight A student while earning his Master of Science in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, from University of Phoenix, and finished with distinction in both his Master's and Bachelor's programs.
Scott began his career in the Mental Health field in 2009 as a Mental Health Technician, then started working in Pahrump in 2010 as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist and Basic Skills Trainer. In 2014 he then became a Marriage and Family therapist, intern.. In 2017 started work as a Pediatric Chaplain and Hospice Chaplain for Procare and subsequently attained his licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Supervisor, and Domestic Violence Supervisor.
Scott and Natalie soon decided to relocate to Pahrump in 2019 and raise their boys in a smaller community. Scott and his family love Pahrump and serving their community. In 2022 he opened his own practice Oak Tree Counseling, LLC and has loved having the challenge of starting something new and challenging. This last year he was appointed by Governor Joe Lombardo and was designated as a Public Member of the Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy in the state of Nevada for 2025-2027.
Over the past two decades, Scott has assisted thousands of individuals, couples, and families in Pahrump, Amargosa, Beatty, Fallon, Reno, Las Vegas and Boulder City, and other regions of Nevada who have silent struggles related to mental health symptoms, addiction, death, violence, and various afflictions. Scott has served as an advocate for his firm along with others with the 5th District drug court in Nevada for several years while routinely visiting NYE County Detention Center to provide mental health evaluations for the 5th District Court, The Honorable Kimberly Wanker.
He works extensively in therapeutic settings, providing counseling, crisis intervention, case management, drug court
cases, Mental health evaluations in NYE County Detention Center for attorneys, and structured treatment planning
for individuals and families. This experience contributes to a practical understanding of the challenges faced by our
rural communities, including limited resources, transportation barriers, unemployment, and socio-economic issues.
His experiences with mental health, addiction, domestic abuse, and bereavement motivate him to advocate for an
improved future for Nye County Justice Court. He remains non-partisan, non-denominational, ethical, and discreet
in all facets of his current profession, which qualifies him as an unbiased prospective Justice of the Peace in Nye
County.
In his leisure time, Scott and his wife Natalie loved coaching Flag football for boys ages 7-14, for 14 seasons.
Scott's love for coaching football enabled him to assist at-risk youngsters. He loves fishing, traveling, Scott
participating in church activities and serving others in various capacities for over 30 years.
